About Rebecca

Hi!

Thank you for visiting my website.

I'm Rebecca and I have been working as a professional photographer for 26 years.

Originally from Hertfordshire, I studied photography and film studies before starting my career in photography as a manager (then area manager) for a chain of international portrait studios, before moving to work for a top independent studio in Glasgow.

Both enabled me to understand the successful running of a photography business, with high levels of good quality of work and customer service as key, as well as learning the skills behind photographing both portraits and weddings.

In the late 90's I moved to Gloucestershire, and in 1999 with the help of The Prince's Youth Business Trust, I set up my own portrait studio in the heart of Cheltenham. Since then I have moved premises a few times, but have taken more portraits and captured more weddings than I could ever have dreamed of.

Due to starting my career before the digital era, I learnt photography by using film, medium format cameras and a darkroom. By doing so, I have a strong grasp of the trueness of photography, and a real understanding of light and 'getting the shot in camera'. Since 2006 I have however embraced digital photography and as someone who loves to learn, this has been great fun! I still shoot very much as if I am using film, but love the diversity that shooting digital offers.

In 2012 I qualified as a Licentiate of The British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP), and was nominated that same year for Licentiate of the Year. As a result, I received the award of Highly Commended for the Peter Grudgeon Award. Since then I have moved onto the status of Associateship and have been honoured to have received many awards including South West Photographer of the year 2015 and Cotswolds Photographer of the year 2019 (please see my awards page for a full list).

It is so humbling to receive such recognition for my work, but the greatest satisfaction comes from being able to deliver to you, my client, images that you can treasure forever. I treat every shoot, every wedding, every life event, as unique. A moment in time never to happen again, but caught in a way that is timeless. This to me is the most important part of what I do.

And on a personal note, I am a proud mum of grown up children Henry and Sophie, and a big lover of the history of photography, art, cinema and reading. And cats, I do love cats!
